What is ATV Insurance?Your all-terrain vehicle can take you across wide open fields, through muddy swamps and across snowy hills and valleys. That’s why ATV insurance is essential to keep you and your “toy” safe. FAQWhat is an off road vehicle?Off road vehicles are all snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles. All-terrain vehicles can be amphibious, utility, or side-by-side vehicles. Why does my off road vehicle need insurance?Any vehicle that will be driven on the road or off of your personal property must have insurance. It is mandatory for all vehicles that will be driven on public trails, except for dirt bikes and dune buggies. Same with a car or a motorcycle, you need insurance to protect yourself and the other drivers. If your snowmobile or 4 wheeler is of high value, you’ll want to protect that as well with collision and comprehensive coverage. Can my child drive my off-road vehicle? In the province of New Brunswick, it is legal for children under the age of 16 to operate an off-road vehicle as long as they follow the rules around that. If you intend for your child to operate yours, be sure to tell your broker so they can add coverage for it.If I cancel my insurance half way through to put my snowmobile in storage, I’ll save half the premium. This is false. Policies for seasonal vehicles like motorcycles, boats, and snowmobiles are adjusted for the fact that you won’t use them in the winter. Even though your coverage is good all year, you’re only paying the premium for the time you would be using it. If you were paying premiums for the full year, it would likely cost double. Leaving coverage on your snowmobile full time also means that if it’s being stored in a storage unit somewhere and it gets stolen, your comprehensive coverage will still protect it.Is my off road vehicle insured while I drive it to the camp? The liability insurance you have on the towing vehicle will also cover the trailer hauling your off road vehicle. If the trailer swings out and hits another vehicle, your insurance will cover it. However, any damage done to the trailer or the vehicle will not be covered. You need to purchase separate collision and comprehensive coverage for the trailer and the vehicle if you want to be protected against these. If you disconnect the towing vehicle and the trailer when you arrive at the camp, you’re also disconnecting the liability insurance |
